Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit series wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
