Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua Released from Hospital in Lagos Following Deadly Road Accident
The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities announced on Wednesday evening. The athlete was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on December 29th, a horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.
Recovering from Minor Injuries
Joshua had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his management team had said on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was judged healthy enough to “recuperate at home”.
“The boxer and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two departed friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” the commissioner stated.
Honoring the Deceased
The two men who died were named as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. Omotoso added that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the tragic loss of his two trusted companions.”
This update on his health follows the boxing community had expressed sympathy for the champion in the aftermath of the terrible crash.
