The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
