The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
