The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team has just 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
