Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
