President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Shot Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her alma mater, informed the press. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event led the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” the governor told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
