Paceman Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Problems.
'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.
Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area on the second morning in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.
The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring post-delivery in his spell at the MCG.
The England team stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".
The series decider of the series at the SCG starts at the end of the week.
The visitors have already lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.
A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.
Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.
He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 while batting being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.
After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he resumed the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.
Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt at his leg.
The English bowler was brought back for the Boxing Day Test having missed the previous Test.
