LeBron James's Legendary Point-Scoring Streak Concludes, However Los Angeles Secure Triumph Over Raptors.

The Lakers star knew his incredible streak of reaching double digits was in danger. At the decisive instant, though, it was not his focus.

The correct basketball play meant distributing the basketball – and he executed. Consequently, the legendary streak finished.

LeBron's unprecedented run of over 1,200 straight regular-season outings scoring at least ten concluded during a recent game, as basketball's greatest scorer was limited to eight points in the Lakers' 123-120 win against the Toronto Raptors. He made the game-winning assist, finding Rui Hachimura to knock down a three-point shot to win the game.

“Zero,” James stated when asked on the record concluding. “We won.”

A Team-First Decision Secures Victory

James could have tried to secure the game – and extended the streak – in the closing seconds, instead, he decided to dish the ball to his teammate stationed in the corner. Hachimura sank it, and James exulted with his hands in the air.

It's about playing the game the right way. Always make the correct play,” James explained. “That’s just been my M.O.. It's how I learned to play. That's what I've done my whole career.”

He is fully cognizant of how many points he has at any point,” commented Lakers coach the coach. He made the play like he’s done countless times.”

The Streak's Closing Chapter

James re-entered the floor one last time with just over five minutes left, the win along with the historic run up for grabs. His tally was only six points from 3 for 15 from the field at that juncture.

He got a bucket at under two minutes remaining to level the contest then missed a shot with one minute to go that might have pushed him into double figures.

He passed up another shot – even though he had a chance. A teammate found him as time wound down, but James chose to dish it off instead.

The spirits of the game, if you approach it the right way, they tend to repay you,” Redick added.

Reflecting on a Monumental Run

The record commenced on Jan. 6, 2007. It stood as the longest streak of its kind the league has ever seen: His Airness, Michael Jordan previously held a streak of 866 consecutive games with 10+ points, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 787 such games, and The Mailman recorded of 575 games.

LeBron is such an unselfish player,” said teammate Jake LaRavia.

He simply plays the game of basketball. He had the opportunity but because of his nature as a player and his personality as a person, he made the unselfish play, dished to Hachimura and we won the game.”

Scoring in double figures had long been a guarantee long before the fourth quarter began. During James’s streak, he had attained the 10-point mark entering the fourth over twelve hundred times coming into the contest.

But two such single-digit games after three periods took place just days before: He had nine entering the final quarter against Dallas on 28 November, followed by six points before the fourth quarter versus the Suns on Monday night.

James managed to preserve the record in the Phoenix game. One game later, it concluded – but he still rejoiced all the same.

My focus is to make the best play. That comes naturally, regardless of outcome,” James said. If you make the smart play, the basketball gods consistently rewarding me.”
