Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
