Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is out of work meaning Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
