A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The winter break present a plethora of activities far superior than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements came out over the break, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Truly the most surprising announcement, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio known for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Right after the airing of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not yet been announced.
